Working in Burundi

Burundi has built its economy on food production, mainly exporting coffee, tea and sugar to partners across the world. It’s main industry is agriculture, and a large portion of the population are subsistence farmers. The country has close ties to regional partners in the EAC.

Why work in Burundi?

Burundi is a challenging work and social environment. The majority of roles for highly skilled individuals come in the form of NGO and charitable work. The country has under developed education and healthcare systems, and anyone working in the country is advised to ensure they have insurance and access to private provisions. Social living is limited, and the population generally has very low levels of income, resulting in reduced social activity. Moving to Burundi is not advised prior to obtaining an offer of employment.
